This is a thing, I don’t know where it’s going. SFW, late at night/early morning scene.
Nalara threw back her covers. There was nothing for it; she couldn’t sleep. Maybe a little tinkering with something would help. She put on her slippers and made her way out of her quarters and down the stairs to where her materials waited, trying to be as quiet as possible. There was no reason that anyone else should be awake just because she was.
She pulled up a chair to her crafting table, switched on the small lamp, and opened the smallest of the wire boxes. She’d left an earpiece half finished earlier that day and she supposed that completing it would be a good idea. It took her some time to lay out the pieces she needed and she was so quickly immersed in the work that she didn’t register the voice she heard for a moment.
“Couldn’t sleep?”
Nalara dropped the part she was holding, and it clattered to the table far more loudly than she had thought it would. She looked up. Torian Cadera was standing a few meters away from her. He’d obviously been asleep himself not that long ago. He was bare-chested and the tousled state of his hair made him look absurdly young. She turned back to her work before she answered.
“No. I thought I was being quiet.”
“You were. I was awake before, got up, and saw the light. Be right back.”
Nalara worked on her wires. She saw Torian’s bare feet at the edge of her vision a few minutes later when he returned. There were no other chairs, so he sat down on a box.
“Got anything for me to work on? Can’t sit like this, doing nothing.”
“Take a look,” she said, waving her hand at the table. Torian stood up and came over to look at the parts.
He put his hand on the datapad that held her schematics. “May I?”
“Sure.” He picked it up and tapped through the list, pausing to check a few of the boxes for necessary parts.
